I also hope to help knitters new and old (i don't mean your age LOL) by sharing information, handy hints and tips, answering quieries and helping solve your knitting problems. Sturday Stitch: Square Buttons

Every Saturday I will share with you a new stitch.
Today's stitch is: Square Buttons.

Beautiful embossed square buttons, perfect for throws, baby blankets, pillow covers etc. You need a stitch number multiple of 10 + 2 edge stitches. Repeat the pattern between the * as many times as you like.

Instructions :

Row 1: edge st, knit across to last st, edge st
Row 2: edge st, purl across to last st, edge st
Row 3: edge st, * k1, p8, k1; repeat from * to last st, edge st
Row 4: edge st, * p1, k8, p1; repeat from * to last st, edge st
Row 5, 7 & 9: edge st, * k1, p2, k4, p2, k1; repeat from * to last st, edge st
Rows 6, 8 & 10: edge st, * p1, k2, p4, k2, p1; repeat from * to last st, edge st
Row 11: Same as row 3
Row 12: Same as row 4

Repeat rows 1 through 12.

Difficulty level: Medium

Sorry to ask but fairly new to knitting, doing the back and it says to decrease until 24 stitches remain. As I started with an uneven number and the decrease is in even numbers I don’t see how I can achieve 5his? Is it a typo perhaps?

New born baby cardigan, is this right to decrease one at each end of every knit row to make the raglan sleeve Shape? The back piece is longer than the rest of the cardigan!

What I mean is when it says shape the arms for the back piece after you decrease four each side,
You decrease one then it says Continue in this way... do you mean carry on decreasing one all along to the last three stitches? I thought you meant carry on with a knit row to the last three stitches.. now I am stuck it looks far too long.
