Cute Baby Stole and Beret


After making the Romantic Stole for a friend I was asked if I could make something similar for a baby girl. This is what I came up with.
The pattern is so easy and hardly takes anytime at all and is for baby aged 6 - 12months.






You'll need size 4.5mm needles 
4mm cırcular needle for edging
1 ball Double knit type yarn
1 ball eyelash type yarn
The tension guide is 14 sts and 19 rows over 4inches/10cm


Abbreviations
K- knit
P- purl
St st- stocking stitch (knit across front row, purl across back row)
k2tog - knit 2 stitches together
yo - yarn over needle


Using eyelash yarn cast on 115sts.
Work in St st for 8 rows.
Change to double knitting yarn and work 8 rows St st .
Change to eyelash yarn and work 8 rows St st
Change to double knitting yarn and work 8 rows St st
Change to eyelash yarn and work 8 rows St st
Decrease for shoulder shaping
Change to double knitting yarn  K1. (K2tog. K17) 6 times. 109 sts.
Next and every alternate row: Purl
Next row: K1,(K2tog, K16) 6 times. 103sts
Next row:K1, (K2tog, K15) 6 times. 97sts
Next row:K1, (K2tog, K14) 6 times. 91sts
Change to eyelash yarn and work 8 rows straight St st and cast off.


Edging
I used picot edging but you can use any edging you prefer.
Neck edge with double knitting yarn and right side facing pick up 85st evenly  and knit 2 row St st
Next row K1, *yo, k2tog, rep from * to end
Next row purl
Next work 2 rows St st
Cast off.
Front and back edging with circluar needle, double knitting yarn and rightside facing pick up 56st down left front, 115across back and 56st up right front  227st in all. Work edging same as neck edging. With wrong side  Facing  fold the at the eyelet row. Carefully sew the cast-off row to the piece.


Flower Fastening.



With double knitting yarn  Cast on 4 stitches.
Row 1. Knit front & back of 1st stitch, knit 3 (5sts)
Row 2. Knit front & back of 1st stitch, purl 4 (6sts)
Row 3. Knit front & back of 1st stitch, knit 5 (7sts)
Row 4. Knit front & back of 1st stitch purl 6 (8sts). Cut yarn leaving a 4’’ tail and leave on a spare needle.
Repeat 4 more times but do not cut yarn on last petal
Row 5. Join all petals by knitting across (40 sts)Row 6. Purl 2 together across row (20 sts)
Row 7. Knit 2 together across row (10sts)
Row 8. Purl 2 together, purl 3 together, prul 2 together, purl 3 together
Thread yarn through stitches and pull tight and sew into place. Secure all loose ends.




You can finish off flowers by adding beads, buttons or anything you wish in the center I used some of the eyelash yarn to make a small 'bobble'.



Beret

Instructions:
With double knitting yarnCast on 60 sts
Join in the round, being careful not to twist sts.
Place stitch marker to indicate start of round.
 Roll Brim:
Work stocking stitch by knitting every round for 1.5 inches or 3.75 cm
Change to eyelash yarn then work increase round once as follows:


Next rnd:
*K2, M1; rpt from * to end 90 sts


Body:
Work plain stocking stitch (knit every round)
until
main body measures 2.5 inches or 6.25 cm from increase round.


Crown shaping:
Next rnd:
*K13, K2tog; rpt from * to end.
Next rnd:
*K12, K2tog; rpt from * to end.
Next rnd:
*K11, K2tog; rpt from * to end.
Next rnd:
*K10, K2tog; rpt from * to end.
Carry on in this fashion decreasing 6 sts per round until you have 6 sts remaining.
Next rnd:
*K2tog; rpt from * to end 3 sts cut yarn thread through sts and fasten off tightly.


Finishing:
Weave in all ends. A light blocking is recommended to help the shaping settle. It is best to block this Hat flat, as a circle, with the crown at the centre.
