Approx. 50g baby soft double knit type yarn
set of 4.5mm circular needle or size to obtain gauge
Tapestry needle
Stitch markers as necessary
Gauge:
18 sts x 24 rows to 10cm/4" on 4.5mm needles over St.St
Sizes:
To fit size: 14'', newborn, (16'' 3-6mnth, 18'' 6-12mnths)
Abbreviations:
K–knit
M1–pick up the horizontal loop between
next 2 sts, place it onto the left needle
then knit into the back of it
K2tog–knit next 2 sts together
Instructions:
Cast on 60 (68,76) sts
Join in the round, being careful not to twist sts.
Place stitch marker to indicate start of round.
Roll Brim:
Work stocking stitch by knitting every round for 1.5 (1.5,1.75'' or 3.75(3.75,4.5 cm))
then work increase round once as follows:
Next rnd:
*K2, M1; rpt from * to end 90 (102, 144) sts
Body:
Work plain stocking stitch (knit every round)
until
main body measures 2.5'' (6.25 cm) (3''(7.5), 3.5''(8.75)) from increase round.
Crown shaping:
Next rnd:
*K13 (15, 17), K2tog; rpt from * to end.
Next rnd:
*K12 ( 14, 16), K2tog; rpt from * to end.
Next rnd:
*K11 (13, 15), K2tog; rpt from * to end.
Next rnd:
*K10 (12, 14), K2tog; rpt from * to end.
Carry on in this fashion decreasing 6 sts per
round until you have 6 sts remaining.
Next rnd:
*K2tog; rpt from * to end 3 sts cut yarn thread through sts and fasten off tightly.
Finishing:
Weave in all ends. A light blocking is recommended to help the shaping settle. It is best to block this Hat flat, as a circle, with the crown at the centre.

The first row after the brim. Is it actually knit 1, m1 instead of knit2, m1.

By the other sizes I think it should be 114, not 144.
ReplyDeleteYes, the correct count; in my opinion, is 114 stitches. If you k1, m1 you're actually doubling the stitches and would get 152.
